Al-Shakaa Soap Factory, also known as Hasan Al-Shakaa Soap Factory and Camel Brand 1926, is one of the historical landmarks in Nablus, located in the West Bank. Situated in the old city of Nablus, this factory has been producing traditional Nabulsi soap since the 19th century during the Ottoman era.
This factory is one of the first soap factories in Nablus, with a history spanning over 180 years. Built as a family craft, it has been passed down from fathers to sons and grandsons.
The soap is still made using traditional manual methods. Olive oil, caustic soda, and water are the main ingredients, cooked over fire for 5 to 6 days, then poured onto the ground and cut into squares. The imprint took its mascot from the camel trains used to carry in qilw soda ash. The soap is made using natural materials without any fragrances or chemicals.
Olive oil soap gets better with age. Keep them in a dry place for an increasingly olive-tan colored, dense, sudsy, and less soap-smelling bar. They can be aged even faster in a sunny window.
