Inspired by qʷəɬáʔalʔ and their inextricable relationship to people, land, waters, and pollinators. This black long sleeve is an exploration of qʷəɬáʔalʔ from the perspective of a bee, who like many flower visitors (bats, moths, hoverflies) can perceive ultra-violet patterns on flowers.
Created by Gwagwadaxla for the Victoria Compost Education Center, we are selling these shirts in partnership with the compost education center to help support their programming and education.
Gwagwadaxla is a contemporary Kwakwaka’wakw and lək̓ʷəŋən artist, with ties specifically to the ‘Na̱mg̱is and Songhees nations. Living on lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territories, Gwagwadaxla is inspired by the land to tell stories. While sometimes the stories emerge as visual art or contemporary dance, these legends are the living truthof his people; this cultural magic is a lifeforce in Gwagwadaxla’s stories and art, and will guide him for the rest of time.
